SBA loan data

SBA loan data: every state, Pennsylvania counties and top industries

How many SBA 7(a) and 504 loans were approved, how large they were, which industries received them and which lenders and CDCs made the most, built from the SBA's public loan-level data. 342,797 loans in FY2020–FY2025, broken down by state, Pennsylvania county and industry.

Data as of (SBA 7(a) & 504 FOIA release). Headline figures cover fiscal years 2020 through 2025 (October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2025). Methodology and sources.

Headline numbers, FY2020–FY2025

342,797 SBA 7(a) and 504 loans totaling $198.75 billion were approved nationwide in FY2020–FY2025 (302,593 7(a) and 40,204 504), excluding loans later cancelled.

  • 342,797SBA loans approved (7(a) + 504)
  • $198.75 billionTotal approved amount
  • $198,300Median 7(a) loan (302,593 loans)
  • $631,000Median 504 amount (40,204 loans)
  • 3,555,821Jobs supported, as reported on the loans
  • 11.8%Loans to franchise businesses

What the national numbers show

  • Half of the 7(a) loans approved nationwide were between $52,000 and $518,000, and the median was $198,300. A request well above $518,000 would be larger than three in four 7(a) loans recorded here.
  • 40.6% of 7(a) loans here were under $150,000.
  • 504 loans were 11.7% of the loans counted here, with a median 504 amount of $631,000.
  • 2,116 lenders (counted by name as recorded in the data) approved at least one 7(a) loan here. The 10 most active by count made 40.2% of 7(a) loans, so 7(a) lending here is moderately concentrated.
  • 7(a) approvals went from 36,490 in FY2020 to 64,096 in FY2025, up 76%.
  • The sector with the most loans was Accommodation and Food Services (12.7% of loans), followed by Construction (12.4%).

These are counts of approved loans. The data does not show applications that were declined or withdrawn, so it says nothing about approval odds, and past volume is not a forecast for any individual request.

Methodology in brief

  • Source: the U.S. Small Business Administration's 7(a) & 504 FOIA loan-level data, release as of June 30, 2026.
  • Period: loans approved in FY2020–FY2025 (by SBA fiscal year, October to September). FY2026 is shown in the yearly tables as a partial year only.
  • What counts: every approved 7(a) and 504 loan except those the data marks as cancelled. Amounts are gross approved amounts; for 504 that is the CDC portion.
  • Privacy and small numbers: any figure based on fewer than 10 loans is shown as "fewer than 10". Lenders and CDCs are listed only with at least 10 loans in the place shown.
  • Lender names: exactly as recorded in the data, not merged or edited.
